GIFTED ENTREPRENEUR’S A-LIST
NAME: Sharí Alexander
COMPANY: Observe Connect Influence
“Deliver your words not by number, but by weight.” – Proverb
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I bring the “dark arts” of influence into the light. I help business leaders who are creating positive change in the world become influential with their words and their presence by teaching the same techniques as spies, con-artists, hostage negotiators and other top influencers.
WHY DO YOU DO?
Because there is something wrong when a con-artist knows more about influence than a business leader. People who are making a positive difference in the world are severely lacking in the techniques and strategies needed to be persuasive.
No one makes it to the top alone. People will always have to solicit the help of others – whether it be with ideas, energy, time, or funds. There is no reason why a communication should be the barrier to one’s success.
HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE YOUR GIFT?
I often say that I am an “influence junkie.” The reason why I find influence so fascinating is because it seems to be the complete study of human nature – discovering why we do what we do, learning about the nature of others (and our own), having a better understanding of our social and biological programming, and the power and complexity of language.
I’d say that my gift is bringing a balance to the conversation of influence. The left-brained, detail-oriented person learns the techniques and strategies they desire, while at the same time the heart-centered, empaths learn how influence can actually create a deep connection with themselves and their fellow human beings.
HOW DO YOU GIFT IT FORWARD?
When all other resources have dwindled or disappeared (time, money, etc.), the ability to understand, communication with, and influence others is a lifelong skill that will always bring abundance.
I see too many good people with amazing dreams who hit stagnation because they cannot adequately convince others to join them in the journey. I think that effective communication trumps money and power because I see effective communication as the true epicentre of money and power.
HOW DID YOU START ON YOUR GIFTED JOURNEY?
I’m a failed actress. That’s the short of it. I lived studying human nature as part of the craft of acting, but was wildly disenchanted by the business of acting. Ever since college, I have had people ask me for help with their important presentations – college professors (while I was IN college!), company board members, professional speakers, etc. I think that others identified my skill-set long before I did.
I’ve always loved teaching. I taught computer skills to a classroom full of adults when I was 10 years old. It’s just who I am. When I really consider why I do what I do, it’s not for the money, or the lifestyle, or the accolades. Those things are great, and I certainly strive for those things. But what gets me out of bed every day and what truly fills my heart with joy is seeing the lightbulb go off in someone’s eyes when the get it. I live for that moment. No standing ovation can overshadow that feeling.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE THE 21 YEAR OLD VERSION OF YOURSELF?
Trust your gut and do it your way. I think that one thing that held me back for far too long was looking for THE answer or THE process to success. I put too much faith in authority figures and I followed the paths that they had trudged. Those paths worked for them, but they weren’t my path.
It wasn’t until I trusted my intuition and did what felt in alignment with my core that I started to see the kind of success that I craved.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE THINKING OF BECOMING A GIFTED ENTREPRENEUR?
As I mentioned before, I feel like at my core i’m a teacher. One thing I’ve noticed about the best teachers in the world is that we all teach what we need to learn. So, I think when looking for the bigger purpose, I’d say look for your pain points. Look at the scars you have – past wounds that have healed, but left a mark. Someone out there is still hurting from those same wounds and you can help them. Make your purpose personal.
WHO ARE THE ARCHANGELS IN YOUR LIFE?
I feel fortunate to have crossed paths with many Archangels, and many more to come. One of the first that comes to mind is Jim Stovall. He is a blind man who created a television network. He is an impressive orator, leader, and amazing human being. I look to him as a model for how I want to be when I grow up.
Another is Joey Coleman. He has become a dear friend. He almost took on a big brother role for me when I was going through one of the most turbulent times in my life. He is always available, compassionate, and giving. He is one of the very few people who I can look to who seems to have found a successful balance in business, personal life, relationships, and spirit.
This may get a little woo-woo for some people, but I think that many of the archangels in my life are those who are brave enough to be vulnerable. As someone who spent the majority of their lives putting up barriers and hiding, I learn so much when I see someone expose their experiences and their heart. I believe I can attribute every great learning moment in my life to those specific times when some showed who they truly are, where they come from, their fears, and their dreams.
