Gifted Entrepreneur’s A-LIST: Blake Mycoskie of TOMS Shoes

The term ‘A-List’ typically refers to a Hollywood celebrity with a lot of star-power and status, who’s currently in the limelight.

My ‘A-List’ stands for Angels and Archangels – shining examples of Gifted Entrepreneurs making a fortune by making a difference in the world.

There is no better example in the world of a Gifted Entrepreneur than Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS Shoes.

If you don’t know the TOMS story, it started in 2006 while Blake was vacationing in Argentina.  During his vacation he spent a day volunteering with a local non-profit, delivering shoes to children in villages close to Buenos Aires.

The experience opened Blake’s eyes to the need for a more sustainable solution, and he realized that a for-profit business could create as much or more value and sustainable change than a non-profit.  It was then that he created the One-For-One business model, where the company donated a pair of shoes for each pair purchased by a customer.

To date, TOMS has donated over 2,000,000 pairs of shoes.

Here is an excellent video of former U.S. President Bill Clinton interviewing Blake Mycoskie about TOMS:

How can you apply the One-For-One business model to your company?

How can you create sustainable change in the world with your experience, wisdom, and reputation?
